What it covers
CERN INTC proposal INTC-P-546 / IS657: first collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy of short-lived radium monofluoride (RaF) molecules.
Methods and setup
The CRIS beam line at ISOLDE, two-step laser ionization of ²²⁵,²²⁶RaF, aimed at the first excited-state energy and the ionization potential.
Why it matters
RaF is predicted to be laser-coolable and unusually sensitive to parity- and time-reversal-violating moments. None of its levels were known experimentally. This proposal is the first laser look at a short-lived radioactive molecule.
