What it covers
A precision measurement of the electron-capture Q-value of ²⁰²Pb, asked because a very low capture energy could be useful for a direct electron-neutrino mass experiment.
Methods and setup
The atomic mass difference between ²⁰²Pb and ²⁰²Tl was measured with ISOLTRAP at ISOLDE. The paper reports Q_EC = 38.8(43) keV, three times more precise than the AME2012 value.
Why it matters
The refined Q-value is still not a replacement for ¹⁶³Ho in running neutrino-mass experiments, but it shows that ²⁰²Pb could support a few-eV neutrino-mass measurement with a cryogenic microcalorimeter if the transition is used that way.
